On the occasion of World Poetry Day, celebrated annually on March 21, the Embassy of Turkmenistan in Ukraine held a poetry marathon, "Dialogue of Cultures in Poetic Words," with the participation of representatives of the Turkmen diaspora in Ukraine and embassy diplomats. The goal of this project is to promote the rich poetic heritage and strengthen cultural and humanitarian ties between the countries through a dialogue of literary traditions.

The marathon featured performances of works by outstanding classical poets of Turkmenistan and Ukraine: Gurbandurdy Zelili, Seyitnazar Seydi, Magtymguly Pyragy, Volodymyr Sosyura, Lesya Ukrainka and Taras Shevchenko.

Through artistic expression, the marathon participants managed to convey universal themes that are understandable to every nation, uniting cultural traditions and spiritual values.

The event explored profound philosophical and lyrical themes: the transience of human life and the importance of spiritual guidance, the inner struggle, the strength of spirit and life choices, freedom, pure and bright love, maternal feelings, and hopes for a better future. The poetic imagery evoked the profound connection between humanity and nature—with the image of the Karakum Desert as a symbol of freedom, vitality, and boundless space.

The marathon culminated with a final reading of Magtymguly Pyragy's poem in Ukrainian translation at the poet's monument in central of Kyiv. The poem is filled with images of a horse and a horseman, symbolizing forward striving, courage, and loyalty to one's chosen path.

The choice of this particular poem was deeply symbolic, as the year 2026 in Turkmenistan is celebrated under the motto "Independent, permanently neutral Turkmenistan –homeland of purposeful heavenly horses". The image of the steed—the pride of the Turkmen people and one of the key national symbols—is a natural resonation with the content of the work, emphasizing the continuity of cultural values and their relevance in the modern world.

Organizing such events is especially important today. The poetry marathon has become not only an act of cultural presentation but also an important tool for strengthening intercultural dialogue, mutual understanding, and friendship between peoples, promoting the rich literary heritage, unlocking the spiritual potential of national cultures, and highlighting the timeless values reflected in classical poetry.
