Turkmenistan, UNESCO to Expand Cooperation in Education
Turkmenistan’s Minister of Education, Jumamyrat Gurbangeldiyev, held a series of meetings at UNESCO headquarters in Paris on March 25 to discuss the development of international cooperation in education, the Ministry of Education of Turkmenistan reported.
During talks with UNESCO Director-General Khaled El-Enany, the sides reviewed the current state and prospects of cooperation, focusing on ensuring equal access to quality education, digital transformation and the integration of artificial intelligence. The sides noted that joint initiatives contribute to strengthening the national education system and its integration into the global educational space.
UNESCO leadership praised the reforms carried out in Turkmenistan, highlighting their systematic and forward-looking nature, as well as the country’s contribution to achieving Sustainable Development Goal 4.
As part of the visit, a separate meeting was held with UNESCO Assistant Director-General for Education Stefania Giannini. The talks took place on the sidelines of the presentation of the Global Education Monitoring Report (GEM Report 2026). The sides discussed the digitalization of education, the development of lifelong learning and the expansion of cooperation with relevant UNESCO structures.
Particular attention was paid to Ashgabat’s participation in the UNESCO Global Network of Learning Cities, as well as prospects for opening a new Digital Science chair and cooperation with the Institute for Information Technologies in Education.
