The team of Turkmenistan started today with an impressive 3-0 victory over the national team of Oman in the preliminary round of the Under 16 Junior Davis Cup qualification in the Asia and Oceania zone. The competition takes place in the capital of Sri Lanka, Colombo.

The DCJ Asia/Oceania Pre-Qualifying tournament, held under the auspices of the International tennis federation (ITF) in cooperation with the Asian tennis federation (ATF), involves 15 teams.

The sixth-seeded team of Turkmenistan plays in-group «B» together with the national teams of Singapore (the 2nd seed), Myanmar and Oman.

The Turkmenistan team at the U16 Davis Cup is represented by three 14-year old promising tennis players - Ali Geldiyev, Suleyman Hudayberdiyev and Kerimgeldi Guldurdyyev, who have already achieved a lot of success in the international arena at their young age.

The fate of the opening match of the Turkmenistan team at the U16 Junior Davis Cup was decided in singles, in which Ali Geldiyev defeated Mutaz Al Mazroui in 1 hour and 2 minutes – 6:1, 6:2, and Suleyman Hudayberdiyev defeated Abdulrahman Al Rahbi in 1 hour and 6 minutes – 6:2, 6:0. In the doubles match, which no longer mattered for the team victory, Ali Geldiyev and Kerimgeldi Guldurdyyev needed only 54 minutes to defeat Mutaz Al Mazroui and Abdulrahman Al Rahbi - 6:3, 6:1.

In the next match, our tennis players will play against rivals from Myanmar, who lost 1-2 to the Singapore team in the first round.
