MEETING OF THE MINISTER OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS OF TURKMENISTAN WITH THE REPRESENTATIVE OF THE UN DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME

On June 11, 2020, the online meeting of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov with the Assistant Administrator of UNDP and Director of the UNDP Regional Bureau for Europe and the CIS Ms.Mirjana Spoljaric Egger was held.

During the meeting, the parties highly appraised the long-term and efficient cooperation of Turkmenistan with the United Nations and its specialized agencies.  The parties stated the success of the work of the Country Office of the UN Development Programme in Turkmenistan.   

The global and regional consequences of the pandemic and joint actions taken that aimed at their elimination were thoroughly discussed.  The initiative of the President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov on applying the political-diplomatic tools in addressing the global challenges, which the spread of the coronavirus happens to be, was especially underlined.    

It was noted that the Preparedness and Response Plan of Turkmenistan for Acute Infectious Disease developed in cooperation with the UN was adopted in Turkmenistan.  The importance of collaboration with the aim of minimizing the socio-economic impacts of the pandemic, including the preparation of the corresponding Plan in cooperation with the UNDP was underlined.   

The joint actions and projects on the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals which are also reflected in the Programme of Social and Economic Development of the Country for period of 2019-2025 were discussed.

The parties also touched upon the issues pertaining to further cooperation of Turkmenistan with the UNDP, especially emphasizing the effectiveness of collaboration in the field of healthcare and environment protection. The exchange of views on the preparation of the UNDP Country Programme for Turkmenistan for 2021-2025 took place.
