TURKMENISTAN CONTINUES TO WORK ON THE IMPLEMENTATION OF THE SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT GOALS

On August 28, 2019, a meeting of the Working Group on the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development in the country was held in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan.

The heads and representatives of the ministries and departments of Turkmenistan, higher education institutions, mass media, as well as the key staff of the missions and international organizations accredited in Turkmenistan took part in the meeting.

During the session, the participants were acquainted with the National Voluntary Review of Turkmenistan on the implementation of the SDGs in the country that was presented to the international audience during the high-level Political Forum held in New-York in July of current year.

Addressing the audience, the UN Resident Coordinator in Turkmenistan Ms. Elena Panova congratulated the Government of Turkmenistan for effective work aimed at the implementation of the SDGs in the country and noted that the National Voluntary Review was highly appraised by many UN member-states.

It is worthwhile to note that the Government of Turkmenistan actively embeds the key components of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development in its national programmes, including the upgrading of the educational system and healthcare, protection of ecology and effective use of water resources.
