AN EVENT DEDICATED TO THE “INTERNATIONAL YEAR OF PEACE AND TRUST” WAS HELD AT THE EMBASSY OF TURKMENISTAN IN UKRAINE

On January 21, 2025, a ceremonial event dedicated to the "International Year of Peace and Trust" and the 30th anniversary of Turkmenistan's Neutrality was held at the Embassy of Turkmenistan in Ukraine.

The event was attended by heads and employees of Kyiv libraries, university professors, journalists, book publishers, students and representatives of the Turkmen diaspora.

Toyly Atayev, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Turkmenistan to Ukraine, addressed the audience in honor of the significant event.

It was on the initiative of Turkmenistan, Mr. Ambassador noted, that by a special Resolution of the UN General Assembly 2025 was declared the "International Year of Peace and Trust" and this year is being held in our country under the same name.

The Ambassador of Turkmenistan told the participants about Turkmenistan's successes in the international arena and achievements at the level of socio-economic development, incl. in the fuel and energy sector, agriculture, oil and gas, transport and communications, trade and business, medicine, culture, science and education, and in the area of urban development.

Mr. Atayev reported that under the leadership of President Serdar Berdimuhamedov and thanks to the efforts of the National Leader of the Turkmen people, Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, a lot of work has been done at the international level. Only in recent years, Turkmenistan was unanimously elected to membership in specialized agencies of the United Nations - the Commission on Population and Development of the Economic and Social Council for 2024-2028 and the UN Commission for Social Development for 2025-2029. At the initiative of our country, the UN General Assembly adopted resolutions "Central Asia - a zone of peace, trust and cooperation", "Treaty on a nuclear-weapon-free zone in Central Asia", "United Nations Friendship Games", proclaimed the International Day of Neutrality, annually celebrated on December 12, and 2025 - "International Year of Peace and Trust". He emphasized that the support of our country's initiatives by the majority of UN member states is a great honor for us and a desire to continue active work to maintain peace and trust on the planet and achieve the Sustainable Development Goals.

The Ambassador of Turkmenistan told those present about the history of the adoption of the neutral status of Turkmenistan, about the essence of positive neutrality and its impact on development within the country and in the international field, about preventive diplomacy, about the development of the Concept of Activities and Priorities of Turkmenistan within the framework of the International Year of Peace and Trust and the positions of our country on the main issues of the modern global agenda. On the occasion of the opening of the year "International Year of Peace and Trust", diplomatic staff of the Embassy and participants of the event spoke, noting the high importance of Turkmenistan's peacekeeping efforts and the proclamation of the "International Year of Peace and Trust" at the initiative of Turkmenistan.

Next, the famous poem by Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov "Turkmenistan - the Homeland of Peace and Trust" was read by a representative of the Turkmen diaspora in her native language.

Talented Serdar Derekov performed Turkmen folk melodies on the dutar.

An exhibition of Turkmen national heritage items was displayed to the attention of the event participants, including musical instruments, jewelry, traditional clothing, carpets, art paintings and photographs.

The book exhibition features the author's books of the President of Turkmenistan and the National Leader of the Turkmen people, the Chairman of the Halk Maslakhaty, including those translated into Ukrainian. A separate stand is filled with books and collections of poetry by the outstanding poet and thinker Magtymguly Fragi in different languages of the world.
