MEETING OF THE CENTRAL COMMISSION FOR HOLDING ELECTIONS AND REFERENDUMS IN TURKMENISTAN

On March 31, 2026, a meeting of the Central commission for elections and referendums in Turkmenistan was held, where the final results of the elections of members of the People's Councils in the newly formed etraps of the velayats, as well as to replace the deputies of the Mejlis of Turkmenistan who retired early, members of the velayat, etrap, city People's Councils and Gengeshes, which took place on the 29th of March, 2026, were summarised, approved, and announced.

It was emphasised that the electoral process was built on the principles of alternativeness, transparency, and openness, which became further confirmation of the Turkmenistan to the democratic path of development and the course initiated by the National Leader of the Turkmen people, Hero-Arkadag, and successfully implemented by President Serdar Berdimuhamedov.

All stages of the election campaign were carried out in a timely manner, in accordance with the requirements of current national legislation and generally accepted international standards.

A characteristic feature of the current socio-political campaign is the high voter turnout both during the election campaign and on voting day.

At the meeting, reports were heard from the chairmen of the election commissions of the velayats and the city of Ashgabat on the election results. In accordance with the Electoral Code, 759 candidates were registered with election commissions in 363 districts based on democratic standards. In all electoral districts, two or more candidates ran for one mandate.

Moving on to the main issue on the agenda of meeting of today - summing up, approving and announcing the final election results - it was announced that, according to the information, based on the protocols of the capital and velayat election commissions, 140 out of 285 candidates were elected in the elections of members of the halk maslahaty in the newly formed etraps, 5 out of 14 candidates were elected in the elections of deputies of the Mejlis, 3 out of 9 candidates were elected in the elections of members of the velayat halk maslahaty and the city of Ashgabat, 12 out of 25 candidates were elected in the elections of members of the etrap and city halk maslahaty, 203 members of the Gengeshes were elected out of 426 candidates.

Speaking about the active work of national observers monitoring the electoral process, the meeting participants confirmed the high organisational level of the elections.

In accordance with the provisions of the Electoral code, the election results will be announced in the media in the near future.

At the end of the meeting, its participants confirmed that the elections were held in strict compliance with current legislation in the country and generally accepted international standards.
