A MEETING WITH THE IOM REGIONAL COORDINATOR WAS HELD AT THE MFA OF TURKMENISTAN

Today, on April 14, an online meeting was held between the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Vepa Haiiyev and the regional coordinator of the International Organization for Migration (IOM) for Central Asia, the head of the IOM offices in Kazakhstan, the Kyrgyz Republic, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan Zeynal Gadzhiev.

During the current meeting, the parties considered the priorities for the implementation of the "Plan of projects planned for implementation by the Government of Turkmenistan together with the Representative Office of the International Organization for Migration in Turkmenistan in 2022".

In this regard, combating human trafficking and assistance to migrants, as well as technical cooperation and border management are highlighted as priority areas for interaction.

In addition, issues of strengthening the legal framework for interaction were discussed. The importance of support from the IOM Development Fund was noted. As is known, Turkmenistan takes an active part in various IOM regional projects, implementing the national segment in them.

The timeliness of the adoption of the Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Legal Migration was emphasized. In this regard, V. Haiiyev noted that a Voluntary National Review on the Global Compact on Migration was prepared in Turkmenistan, which was sent to the IOM and ESCAP. In addition, the Turkmen delegation presented a report in the Asia-Pacific Region as part of the participation in the ESCAP Regional Conference on the Review of the Implementation of the GCM.

The Turkmen side also announced its intention to participate in the work of the Global Forum on Migration, which will be held on May 17-20 this year at the UN Headquarters in New York.
