ASHGABAT TO HOST THE UN WORLD FORUM ON INTERNATIONAL LAW IN 2028

In 2028, Ashgabat is planned to host, under the auspices of the United Nations, the World High-Level Forum on International Law. It is also planned to consider the possibility of adopting the Ashgabat Declaration, affirming the role of international law as an essential foundation for peace, security, and sustainable development.

In addition, in cooperation with the United Nations Secretariat and its specialized agencies, a calendar of international events for the International Year of International Law 2028 will be developed.

Turkmenistan will propose holding the official opening ceremony of the International Year of International Law at the United Nations Headquarters in New York at the beginning of 2028, as well as exploring the possibility of organizing high-level events throughout the year in Geneva, Vienna, and other major international centres.

The implementation of these initiatives was proposed by Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov at a Government meeting, with the aim of ensuring the practical implementation of the provisions of the United Nations General Assembly Resolution proclaiming 2028 the International Year of International Law.
