TURKMENISTAN AND OSCE NOTED THE IMPORTANCE OF CONTINUING TO EXCHANGE EXPERIENCES ON HUMAN RIGHTS PROTECTION
On 08.09.2025 a meeting was held between the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov and the Special Representative of Finland to the OSCE Ms. Teri Hakala.
The parties discussed the long-term fruitful cooperation between Turkmenistan and the OSCE in the political, economic, environmental and humanitarian dimensions. They noted the importance of projects and programs implemented in these areas, as well as the need to continue exchanging experience in the field of human rights protection, interaction to strengthen democratic institutions and the rule of law.
R. Meredov expressed gratitude to Ms. Teri Hakala for her personal contribution to the development of constructive partnership and emphasized Finland’s role in enhancing the effectiveness of the OSCE.
It was noted that in recent years, Turkmenistan's relations with such OSCE institutions as the Parliamentary Assembly, the Office of the High Commissioner on National Minorities, the Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights, and the Representative on Freedom of the Media have noticeably intensified.
In the year of the 50th anniversary of the Helsinki Final Act, it is especially symbolic that Finland, the country where this historic document was adopted, is chairing the OSCE. In this context, the interlocutors noted that the priorities of the Finnish OSCE chairmanship, aimed at strengthening dialogue and trust, are in line with Turkmenistan's neutral foreign policy and its international initiatives.
The parties emphasized the importance of coordinating common efforts to ensure security, energy development, and transport connectivity.
