Today, Turkmenistan celebrates International Caspian Sea Day, which was established in 2006 in honor of the adoption of the Tehran Convention for the Protection of the Marine Environment of the Caspian Sea.

As a Caspian state, Turkmenistan has its own mechanisms for preserving the ecology of the marine space. The country has an Interdepartmental Commission on Caspian Sea Issues, which includes the ministries of foreign affairs, finance and economy, environmental protection and its structural unit "Turkmenhydromet", the Institute of the Caspian Sea and other departments.

A national Caspian action plan has also been adopted, and several regulatory documents have been introduced.

Mandatory environmental insurance is in effect for industrial facilities throughout Turkmenistan, the work of fuel and energy enterprises is controlled by the Environmental Control Service, and within the Caspian Sea by a specialized unit "Hazarecocontrol".

Today, a scientific and practical conference "The Caspian Sea - a sea of friendship and peace" begins in Turkmenistan, dedicated to the Caspian Sea Day. In addition, the country will host events in support of cooperation in the Caspian Sea and the preservation of the marine environment.
