INFORMATION ABOUT THE CONCEPT OF THE NEW CITY OF ARKADAG WAS PRESENTED IN THE HOUSE OF LORDS OF THE BRITISH PARLIAMENT

On 13 March 2023, the House of Lords of the UK Parliament hosted an event dedicated to the trade and economic relations of the United Kingdom with the countries of Central Asia, the South Caucasus, Eastern Europe and the Middle East, entitled "Building Bilateral Trade and Industrial Links".

The event was attended by ambassadors accredited to the United Kingdom, the UK Prime Minister's trade envoy to Turkmenistan Baroness Emma Nicholson, the UK Prime Minister's envoys to Lebanon and Ukraine, members of parliament, representatives of companies and organizations of the United Kingdom.

In her opening speech, Baroness Emma Nicholson, Member of the House of Lords of the Parliament of Great Britain noted the interest of the United Kingdom in developing and expanding trade and industrial ties between our countries on a mutually beneficial basis. In addition, she underlined that british business is interested in participating in various projects in Turkmenistan.

The ambassador of Turkmenistan to the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland Ya.Seryaev noted in his speech that Turkmenistan pays special attention to cooperation and development of close and long-term cooperation with the UK in various economic sectors and that are all opportunities and great potential between our countries for this.

The ambassador of Turkmenistan informed the participants of the event about the progress in the construction of the new city of Arkadag in the Ahal Province, which will operate on the basis of the “smart city” concept.

In his speech, the Ambassador of Turkmenistan also noted that the turkmen-british Commerce and Industry Council makes a great contribution to enhancing cooperation between the countries and the next meeting of the TUKTIC is scheduled to be held in London this year.

Concluding the meeting, Baroness Emma Nicholson, the Prime Minister's trade envoy to Turkmenistan, said the proposals were very helpful in developing trade and industrial links between Turkmenistan and the UK, and that british businesses would be exploring ways to continue the close dialogue and deepening cooperation.
