A strategic announcement regarding the future of Turkmenistan’s energy sector was made during the CIET-2025 international conference in Avaza. Serdar Saparov, Deputy Minister of Energy, announced the launch of a major project: the construction of a new combined-cycle (CC) power plant on the Caspian Sea coast.

The facility, planned for the Caspian coast, will have an installed capacity of 1,574 megawatts (MW). The project is a cornerstone of Turkmenistan’s strategy to modernize its energy system.

The increase in installed capacity will ensure reliable and uninterrupted electricity supply for domestic consumers. It will also create substantial opportunities to export electricity to the Caucasus countries and Türkiye, strengthening Turkmenistan’s position as a key regional energy player.

The CC project fully aligns with the country’s green energy agenda. Combined-cycle technology allows dual use of energy, utilizing exhaust heat from gas turbines to generate additional electricity via steam turbines.

This approach conserves natural gas and significantly reduces harmful emissions, making electricity production more environmentally friendly and efficient.

As emphasized by Saparov, the successful implementation of this project demonstrates Turkmenistan’s commitment to innovative technologies and its long-term sustainable development strategy.
