THE PRESENTATION OF A COLLECTION OF POEMS BY MAGTYMGULY IN UKRAINIAN TOOK PLACE IN A LIBRARY NAMED AFTER MAGTYMGULY IN KYIV AS PART OF THE PROJECT "UKRAINE-TURKMENISTAN: CULTURAL MUTUAL ENRICHMENT"
In the first days of March 2025, in a Library named after Magtymguly in Kyiv was held a presentation of the complete collection of translations into Ukrainian of poems by the outstanding Turkmen poet and thinker Magtymguly Fragi, entitled “Magtymguly Pyragy. Revelation.”
This unique literary and artistic publication was published in May 2024 in honor of the 300th anniversary of the great Turkmen classic.
This year, in accordance with the inclusion of the poet's 300th anniversary in the List of significant dates for joint celebration with UNESCO in 2024-2025, the presentation of the book took place within the walls of the capital's Library named after Magtymguly. The event, organized jointly with the Embassy of Turkmenistan in Ukraine, was held within the framework of the project “Ukraine-Turkmenistan: Cultural Mutual Enrichment.” The event was attended by poets and writers, literary critics and teachers, representatives and students of comprehensive schools, music schools and creative art associations, students and the diaspora.
A diplomatic employee of the Embassy of Turkmenistan in Ukraine spoke to the audience, expressing gratitude for the attention and growing interest in Turkmen literature and poetry of the outstanding poet and thinker Magtymguly Fragi in Ukraine.
In his speech, the diplomat emphasized that the contribution of Ukrainian cultural figures of the 20th and 21st centuries, who translated and researched the creative heritage of Magtymguly, as well as the life path and philosophical views of the poet, is very great and is valued in Turkmenistan. Some of them - Pavlo Movchan and Mykola Vaskiv - became laureates of the Turkmenistan medal "Magtymguly Pyragynyň 300 ýyllygyna" in the anniversary year.
The diplomat spoke about the main events and activities of the anniversary year, such as the opening of the cultural and park complex "Magtymguly Pyragy" and the monument of Magtymguly Fragi, the holding of the high-level international forum "The Interconnection of Times and Civilizations - the Basis of Peace and Development", the publication of the book by the President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov " Magtymguly – the sage of the World" and etc. He emphasized that Turkmenistan strives to bring the creative and humanistic message of Magtymguly's poetry to the modern world and this is of particular importance in the current year, declared by the UN General Assembly on the initiative of Turkmenistan as the International Year of Peace and Trust.
In this context, the diplomat spoke about the history and principles of neutrality of our country, which is currently guided by the developed Concept of Activities and Priorities of Turkmenistan within the framework of the International Year of Peace and Trust, which reflects positions on the main issues of the modern global agenda and on the consolidation of efforts of states based on mutual trust, joint dialogue and responsibility.
Then the collection of poems in Ukrainian "Magtymguly Pyragy. Revelation" was presented by the author of the publication, Professor Mykola Vaskiv. He shared his own many years of experience in researching the poet's work and fate, spoke about the features of versification and the phenomenon of the luminary of world literature, about foreign and Ukrainian researchers and experts of the Fragi’s works, focusing on the importance of further study and popularization of the wise word and philosophy of the thinker in Ukraine and around the world.
The cultural and educational figures present, pupils and students read Magtymguly’s poems in Turkmen, Ukrainian and English. Those who had the chance to visit the hospitable Turkmen land shared their warmest memories and stories, dedicated poetic lines of their own composition to Magtymguly. Among them were the Kyiv poet and literary critic Yaroslav Karpets, children's writer and teacher Galyna Dzhemula, philologist and teacher Lyudmyla Burmistrova and others.
Turkmen national melodies were played on the dutar and Ukrainian compositions performed by an instrumental ensemble, as well as musical accompaniment on the saxophone and trumpet.
As noted by the participants of the cultural event, the next edition of the poetry of the outstanding thinker, the great classic of the East Magtymguly Fragi will allow readers to more deeply understand and appreciate the work of the 18th century poet, will increase his worldwide fame and strengthen international cultural cooperation.
